AMS Annual Meeting
Large contingent from the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences attends the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Annual Meeting and Student Conference in Atlanta, GA, from 1-7 February 2004. The AMS meeting attracts over 6000 representatives of the atmospheric sciences community. Undergraduate meteorology majors Brittany Borer, Laura Caudle, Nick Easter, Sean Malone, Ricky Matthews, Amber McGinnis, Emily Monroe, Warren Pettee, Nate Smith, Andy Stein, Matt Toadvine, Ryan Wagoner, Zac Weiner, and Josh Woods will be attending the AMS Student Conference, and both David Goldmintz and Britney Hamilton received funding from AMS to attend the full conference as well. David Goldmintz, and undergraduate working with Dr. Adams, presented a poster at the Hydrology Conference. Earth Sciences graduate students Heath Corder, Brandy Stimac, and Thomas Winesett will also be attending. Heath Corder and Brandy Stimac will be presenting papers in the Energy Conference. GES Faculty will also be represented at AMS. Dr. Manda Adams will be co-chairing a session of the Weather, Climate, and the New Energy Economy Conference. She is also presenting a paper in the Education Symposium in a special session on teaching atmospheric dynamics, and was the organizer of a town hall meeting on Weather Extremes, Changing Climate and Energy Sustainability in the urban environment. Dr. Matthew Eastin will be presenting a paper in a session of the Symposium on Environment and Health. Lecturer and program coordinator Terry Shirley will be leading our recruitment efforts for the undergraduate and graduate programs through a booth at the AMS Career Fair. A good departmental showing for this major conference!
