Categories: News

On April 9th 2015 students and faculty (Drs. Sara Gage and Heather Smith) participating in the department’s inaugural offering of Geography 4600: Geography Professional Seminar hosted a distinguished panel of Alumni who spoke about how their experience and training in our graduate and undergraduate geography programs and at UNC Charlotte prepared them for current careers. Panelists shared with our students best practice for job searches and interviews, insight into the most valuable things they learned while at UNC Charlotte and perspective on the most critical skills for success in the workplace (writing and negotiation!). We were honored to hear from (sitting from left to right in the photograph) Jason Lawrence, Senior Transportation Planner, Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS); John Howard, Administrator, Charlotte Historic District Commission; Penelope Karagounis, Lancaster County Planning Director; Jon Middleton, Partner, GeoScouts, LLC; Scott Whittington, Technical Account Manager, ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute); Laura Simmons, Director of Community Indicators, Urban Institute; Derek Morrell Manager – Market Insights, Lowe’s Corporate; and Elizabeth Morrell, PhD Candidate Geography and Urban Regional Analysis, UNC Charlotte.
