Dr. Thill named to 2022 Class of AAG Fellows

Dr. Jean-Claude Thill is Knight Foundation Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. Thill is highly regarded for his substantial research and training contributions to quantitative human geography and GIScience sub-field.

He has an impressive record of sustained and diverse service to the discipline. For ten years, he served as the editor-in-chief of one of the top journals in GIScience and quantitative methods, Computers, Environment, and Urban Systems. Throughout his tenure as editor, the journal grew in reputation and impact.

As Executive Director of the North American Regional Science Council (NARSC), Thill has critically supported a generation of North American quantitative geographers. Beyond the impact of his service, Thill has written or edited more than ten books and been the author or co-author of several dozen peer-reviewed journal articles. His research, for which he is regarded as one of the best-known and most highly regarded members of his sub-field, has been successfully and impressively funded by the National Science Foundation, national and regional government agencies, such as the Department of Energy and the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Professor Jean-Claude Thill is recognized for his immense contributions to Geography and the American Association of Geographers with his appointment as an AAG Fellow.
